I was hoping to capture a brilliant sunrise breaking the horizon in blazing orange, with hot-pink streaks rushing out in every direction, heralding dawn in magnificent Technicolor. But on this overcast morn, I waited with anticipation for signs of a rising sun.

Finally, I was greeted by dawn’s rosy fingers, subtle pastels barely a nuance of the day’s potential. I stood in reverence to the exquisite beauty in nature’s subtlety.

Never did I doubt the sun would rise; I knew it was there, although I couldn’t see it. Thus is faith—to know God’s magnificence is present, even when our visibility is clouded.

The sun continued to rise. I left the seascape holding the precious gift of a new day.

Life is a series of sunrises—gifts of new beginnings, new opportunities to serve.
